Transit of Mercury. 07 May 2003.

Mercury is seen as a dark speck to the upper left of centre .The transit and its changing
position is clearly seen between the exposure times. The centre dark object is a huge Sun spot on the Solar disk. These were taken with a simple DVD camera at 35 times magnification and at f-4000. A special safe filter was used in front of the lens. Image to the left was taken the day before on the 6th May 2003 and shows the Sunspot. A huge active area seen dark as it is some 2000degrees cooler than the surface of the Sun which is around 6000degrees C. Warning: Never look directly at the Sun with your eyes, or optical aid whatsoever. |
